About Our Mill

Built in 1914 of wormy chestnut, our current mill is the third at this site. This mill was originally waterwheel driven but was switched over to large diesel engines in the 1950's.

Buhr Grinding is an age old technique where we grind the buckwheat between two large stone wheels (buhrs).  Each buhr weighs about a ton and were imported from france around 1855. (see above photos)

Buckwheat Flour is often substituted for wheat flour because of many peoples allergic reaction.
Many people have discovered using buckwheat hulls in pillows instead of down and other stuffing.

Hazelton Mills has many customers in all 50 states and the world that keep coming back for our famous flour.
We make sure our buckwheat flour is the best you will find anywhere and is one reason why Preston County is the buckwheat capital of the world. Try some today.

Our self rising buckwheat flour makes a great gift and has instructions for making great pancakes.

Our site is 27 miles from Morgantown, WV just off the Hazelton Rd. exit.
